Product Reviews from Real People
“Pro trim carpenter. Used to carry 10″ Makita slider (also a great tool), but haven’t put that back in my truck since I bought this little guy 1 1/2 years ago. SOO portable. Need to compliment it however with a standard 10″ miter saw because you can’t cut 2 3/4″ base molding on edge at certain angles. Wonderful for flat stock cutting though. Blades spins so fast it’s like a hot knife through butter. I have 2 complaints. One is that I wish it could bevel left AND right like its big brothers, but I see why it can’t and can adjust my cutting accordingly. And second that I wasted an entire year thinking about whether or not to buy. Would purchase again in a heartbeat! Stock blade cuts very nicely, also lasted quite long in my opinion before I had to send to the sharpener. Makita also makes negative rake blade for clean top and bottom cuts.” By Stephanie
“Absolutely perfect. Perfectly square in all directions right out of the box. Incredible precision. No blade flex/wobble whatsoever. Smooth operation. Intuitive adjustments for all features. Solid feel, VERY well engineered and well made. LIGHT, only 28 lbs. near-instant spin-up, tons of power for its size. Buy 7-1/4″ Blades and save a TON of money. The ONLY thing I wish it had was dual bevel… but even with that wish, I still can’t find a reason to give it anything less than five stars. Great saw – do yourself a favor – stop waffling like I was, and just buy it. The five star ratings on here are dead-on. Kudos to Makita for building a great trim saw.” By Daniel M Boggia
“This has become a very big part of my work, I have the Makita 12″ compound but found that this is great for doing misc pick up work or smaller jobs when taking out the big dog is too much. It’s really nice when you need to move a lot from room to room as well as up and down stairs. Cutting smaller trim on it is a lot more comfortable as well compared to the 12″. This saw has plenty of power, nice brake system and is actually nice to have side by side on the job with the other saws so you don’t need to keep changing one saws angle all the time. It’s just plain convenient to own!” By Ken Horn
“Was in need of a smaller saw for taking to and from the jobsite, and my 10 inch dewalt slider was becoming a bit of a pain. Considered the Hitachi 8 1/2 saw, but when I compared them head to head it was clear that the Makita was miles ahead in terms of quality. 10 amp motor on a small 7 1/2 inch blade is more than enough power for even the toughest of hardwoods. Comes with a very good general purpose blade, but I would recommend that if you do any trim carpentry you pick up the 72 tooth blade that makita makes, cuts like glass and leaves very professional looking finish. Overall a truly great saw.” By Peter Doniec
With a strong history of quality power tools this lightweight Makita LS0714 Quad squares up well and offers excellent precision with smoothness in cutting. This well-engineered piece of equipment brings in high miter saw reviews with its quick spin-up and power, useful for the professional carpenter or at home hobbyist.
What Others Are Saying
A Small Sophisticated Powerhouse
The LS0714’s 10 AMP, 6,000 RPM direct-drive motor employs electronic speed control to improve performance, and is designed to never slip or bog down like belt-drive units. The high 6,000 RPM speed is one of the factors delivering glass smooth cuts. Power to cut through even the densest hardwood is made user-friendly by the soft start and electronic brake features. Owners indicate that both the soft start and brake are very fast (near instant start-up / stops in a second or two). Reference: slidingcompoundmitresaws.com (site no longer active)
