Best Sliding Miter Saw for the Money
When I think about which miter saw I like best, of course, I’m going to be drawn to the very high end ones that are full of all of the bells and whistles. However, I certainly don’t think it’s realistic to break the bank by purchasing the highest priced miter saw you can find. So there has to be a happy medium in quality and price, right? Well, here’s my opinion about the best sliding miter saw you can get for the money.Hitachi C12RSH 15 Amp 12-Inch Sliding Compound Miter Saw with Laser
With 15 AMPS of power, and a no-load speed of 3,800 rpms, this Hitachi sliding compound miter saw provides enough power while still remaining lightweight and portable for job site use. 1,850 Watts of maximum output power allow heavy jobs to be tackled with ease. Big, tough jobs whether in the shop or on the job site are no problem for this powerful sliding saw.
The micro-adjustments on the miter and bevel are capable of:
- 0-57 degree miter angle to the right for flexibility
- 0-46 degree miter angle to the left
- 0-45 degree bevel angle range to the right and left allowing users to quickly and easily flip the saw blade and leave the material in place
This 12inch sliding compound miter saw with laser marker for increased cutting accuracy, also come with positive stops to give accurate cuts time after time. Micro miter and micro bevel adjustment knobs give the ability to fine tune to extremely precise angles and measurements, while the exclusive Hitachi Laser Marker System ensures correct measurements without a hassle, which means correct cuts along the laser each time. Useful for crown moldings and other trim pieces which require on-the-nose mitered cuts.
The fixed side rail system on the Hitachi Sliding Compound Miter Saw allows for cutting that is smooth and accurate every time. The large, pivoting fence raises to 4 11/16 inches for maximum capacity and convenience. This allows crown molding to be cut vertically and other large capacity jobs to be completed without a great deal of shifting or rearranging, saving time and promoting convenience. Revolutionary compact slide system allows the saw head to slide along fixed rails, eliminating the need for rear clearance and making use much simpler in a tight space.
The vertical handle with a soft, elastomer grip reduces vibration to the hand while promoting maximum comfort and control. This ease of comfort allows the user to cut more carefully and accurately for longer periods of time without fatigue or slippage. Coming in at under 80 pounds this saw is a power house which makes it steady and reliable every time. The dust bag allows the user to keep the cutting environment clean by reducing saw dust particles and keeping the tool clean to allow for longevity of the saw’s life.
One of the main reasons that that Hitachi is on the top of the list is that the price and value are comparable others such as Makita, but instead of a one year or three year warranty, the Hitachi comes with a five year limited warranty. This five year warranty, in itself, adds a great deal to the cost comparison because of the value it provides to ensure that the tool will last a long time for the user.
Although this Hitachi Sliding Compound Miter Saw comes with a hefty $1200 list price, it is much more affordably found online through Amazon at less than $450, which is practically a steal.

Although this Hitachi C12RSH 15 Amp 12-Inch Sliding Compound Miter Saw with Laser gives the best bang for its buck, its little brother comes in an extremely close second for those who want a slightly smaller but equally high quality sliding compound miter saw.
The Hitachi C10FSBP4 12-Amp 10-Inch Sliding Dual Compound Miter Saw comes in a right around the same cost online (although the original value is only around $900) but gives the convenience of a 10 inch sawblade with similar features but only weighs around 50 pounds—30 pounds less than the 12 inch model!
The biggest drawback to this smaller model is that it doesn’t come with the Laser Marker System, which minimizes its price value. However, there are many folks who really don’t find themselves using the laser anyway so that’s really just a personal preference.
All in all, Hitachi seems to provide the highest consistency of quality crossed with affordability. Whether considering a 12-inch sliding compound miter saw with laser or a 10-inch sliding compound miter saw, either one of these options will provide you with a great value, long warranty, precise cuts, and a tool that you can have around as a friend for many years to come.
